Iran has promised to supply Russia with more drones and surface-to-surface missiles. Reuters reported this with reference to two senior Iranian officials and two diplomats. According to the press, it is believed that this action of Tehran can further anger the US and the West.
In a report on Tuesday (October 18), Reuters reported that Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Mokhbar, two senior officers of the Revolutionary Guard and an official of the Supreme National Security Council visited Moscow on October 6. During that visit, an agreement was signed between Russia and Iran on the supply of more drones and missiles.
An Iranian diplomat, who did not want to be named, said, "During that visit, Russian officials requested the delivery of more drones and Iranian ballistic missiles capable of hitting precision ground-to-ground targets such as Fateh and Zolfaghar."
A Western official confirmed that Iran and Russia have reached an agreement to supply surface-launched short-range ballistic missiles, including the Zolfaghar.
The report also said that Shahed-136 is one of the drones that Iran has agreed to supply to Russia. The triangle-winged drone is used as a 'kamikaze' drone.
The drones are equipped with a small warhead that explodes on impact. Recently, it has been alleged that such drones have been used in the Ukraine war. However, Tehran dismissed the allegations.
Meanwhile, the Russian forces have again attacked Ukraine's electricity and energy facilities. Electricity and water supply has been cut off in some parts of the country, including an area in the capital, Kiev.
Explosions were heard in the capital shortly after 9am local time on Tuesday (October 18). At this time, smoke can be seen from a power plant near the Dnipro river.
The BBC reported that power and water supplies were cut off in Zhytomyr, west of Kiev. Two installations in Dnipro were severely damaged. The latest attacks come within 24 hours of 'kamikaze' drone attacks in the capital.
