The foreign ministers of the two countries met in New York amid the strained relations between the United States and China. US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in a meeting on the sidelines of the ongoing 77th United Nations General Session in New York. News Al Jazeera.
According to media reports, the two foreign ministers discussed Taiwan and Ukraine issues in the meeting. At that time, the Chinese foreign minister said that China-US relations have hit rock bottom by supporting Taiwan. If this situation continues, he also feared that the diplomatic relations between the two countries would be destroyed in the future. Wang Yi urged the United States to support the one-China policy.
On the other hand, the United States sees China's support for Russia's operation in Ukraine as a provocation, said the US Secretary of State. Anthony Blinken called on China not to create any kind of chaos in regional and global security, including peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
However, the leaders also opined that peaceful coexistence of both countries is necessary to maintain stability in the competitive world. The foreign ministers of the two countries emphasized on the Washington-Beijing bilateral relations to deal with the epidemic, restore the economy, deal with climate change, and deal with terrorism.
Meanwhile, analysts expect the meeting between Blinken and Wang-yi at the summit to lay the foundation for a meeting between the presidents of the two countries at the G-20 summit next November.
Earlier, Washington-Beijing relations took a more hostile turn as China staged unprecedented military exercises around Taipei to coincide with US Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan last month.
