Who are the oldest footballers in history?
Cameroon's star forward Roger Miller, Italian legendary goalkeeper Dino Zoff or English footballer David James are all the oldest players who have participated in the World Cup for their respective countries. Whereas Colombia goalkeeper Fareed Mondragon holds the record as the oldest footballer to ever represent the World Cup by participating at the age of 43.
Fareed Mondragon
The Colombian goalkeeper holds the record for being the oldest player ever to represent the World Cup at the age of 43. Mondragon set the record in a 4-1 win over Japan in 2014. Farid Mondragon was the goalkeeper of Independiente, Galatasaray and Cologne during his career.
Dino Zoff
This legendary Italian goalkeeper proved himself brilliantly in the 1982 World Cup. The 40-year-old goalkeeper was instrumental in Italy's title win over West Germany 3-1 in front of 90,000 spectators in Madrid. Dino Zoff played in the previous season as well.
David James
Just before his retirement from the national team in 2010, the team's relationship with the English footballer was quite emotional. James ended his career by playing the World Cup in South Africa that year. At nearly 40 years old, the 4-1 defeat by Germany was the last international match of the goalkeeper's career.
Angel Labruna
Argentina forward was a River Plate icon. Labruna led Argentina's attack in the 1958 World Cup thrashing of the Czech Republic 6–1. However, this 39-year-old forward did not see any goals in the tournament. He scored 17 goals in 37 matches for Argentina.
