Is artificial intelligence (AI) as smart as humans or smarter than them? According to scientists, it takes 25 years for the human brain to reach full maturity. But a new study claims the AI used in Elon Musk's electric car maker Tesla's cars could be on par with the human brain in just 17 years.
Researchers have long predicted that artificial intelligence will eventually surpass human intelligence, though there are differing predictions about when that will happen.
According to a study by auto trade firm Vanarama, Tesla's new microchip will be 'more intelligent' than humans by 2033. According to the study, this microchip already has a processing power equal to 36 percent of a human brain. About 100 billion neurons make up a human brain, which triples in size during a child's first year and is fully developed by age 25. The news is from the Daily Mail.
According to Vanarama research, Tesla's new D1 microchip is more powerful than any microchip used in previous cars. It performs 362 trillion operations per second. Its processing power is already more than one-third (36 percent) of an adult human brain, capable of handling a quadrillion operations per second.
Analyzing Tesla's current and previous models, the company says the capacity of Tesla's microchips is growing at a rate of 486 percent each year.
The new microprocessor D1 chip will soon be made by Tesla, owned by Elon Musk, as part of the Dojo supercomputer platform and the company's accessible automated driving system.
"It wouldn't be crazy to think that technology will outsmart humans in our lifetime," says Vanarama. Microchips are now able to act like synapses in the brain. Researchers are developing chips that are inspired by the way the brain works.'
