 Myanmar on FATF blacklist

Myanmar has been blacklisted by FATF, an organization that monitors financial transactions of terrorist organizations. The FATF announced the decision in Paris on Friday (October 21).

Financial Action Task Force (FATF) President T Raja Kumar announced the inclusion of Myanmar in the black list. Not only that, the organization has also appealed to the international stage to impose financial sanctions on Naypyidaw. However, the FATF has called for continued financial aid for Myanmar's relief and humanitarian operations in the civil war.

The organization also said that several conditions were given to Myanmar regarding the cessation of financial support to terrorists. In 2020, the country's government promised to develop an action plan to meet all the conditions. But in September 2021, even though that period has passed, nothing has actually been done. Naypyidaw was warned about this in June this year. It is said to meet the conditions by October. But since it is not, Myanmar has been blacklisted.

Meanwhile, they announced that Pakistan has been removed from the gray list. Not only Pakistan, Nicaragua has also come out of FATF's gray list. According to Pakistani media, FATF imposed 34 conditions on Pakistan to stop financial and other support to terrorism. Islamabad has fulfilled all the conditions of that action plan.
