20 killed in bus accident in Colombia

At least 20 people were killed and 15 injured in a bus accident on the Pan-American Highway in southwestern Colombia on Saturday. This news has been reported by police sources. Al Jazeera news.

The bus traveled between Tumaco, a port city in southwestern Colombia, and Cali, 200 miles to the northeast.

Police Captain Albertland Agudelo of the Narino area traffic division said that at least 20 people were killed in the accident.

Among the injured are a three-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy. The injured were rescued and immediately sent to the hospital.

Initial reports say the driver lost control of the bus while crossing a fog-shrouded bend and the bus overturned. Investigators believe the accident may have occurred due to brake failure.

Rescue workers and firemen spent 9 hours trying to right the bus and bring out the victims from inside.
