Australia affected by floods
Three states are flooded in Australia. One body was recovered on Saturday. Meanwhile, the central region of Vietnam is affected by flash floods due to heavy rains.
Residents of three Australian states have been ordered to evacuate due to flooding caused by heavy rains. An emergency alert has been issued. Meanwhile, hundreds of flood-affected people have been rescued. The worst situation is in the state of Victoria. More than 500 houses are submerged in water. 3 thousand homes and businesses have been cut off.
Some parts of the country received more than three times the average October rainfall in just 24 hours, the BBC reported. Residents in several areas, including some in the state capital Melbourne, have been ordered to evacuate.
Victoria state chief minister Daniel Andrews said the number of houses submerged would 'definitely increase'. He termed this flood as one of the worst disasters in decades.
After 400 millimeters of rain in 24 hours in some areas of Tasmania, several rivers rose to flood levels. However, it is not clear how many houses and businesses have been flooded there. About 600 residents of the New South Wales town of Forbes have been told to leave their area. About 250 houses and businesses are expected to be flooded here. More rain is forecast in the coming weeks, which is expected to worsen the situation.
Meanwhile, more than 90,000 houses are under water due to ongoing floods in Nigeria. The death toll in the floods has exceeded 500. The situation is so dire that it is not possible to supply food and fuel to the flood affected areas. Heavy rains have hit 27 out of 36 provinces in Nigeria. At least 14 lakh people have been affected. The country's Meteorological Department said the flood situation worsened due to higher-than-normal rainfall earlier in the summer, which caused the river to break its dam.
On the other hand, the city of Da Nang in the central part of Vietnam was hit by flash floods due to heavy rains. Most of the city is under water. Da Nang, known as the country's tourist city, has been affected by the worst floods in the last 30 years. Many houses have been damaged due to the rapid rise in the water level. Apart from this, many people are stuck at home. Rescue workers are working to rescue them.
