Tensions between Taiwan and China have risen after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and top Washington officials visited Taipei. In response, Beijing conducted massive military exercises around Taipei. In response, the US sent warships to the Taiwan Strait. This made the situation more heated.

In such a situation, US President Joe Biden has once again provoked the ongoing tension between China and Taiwan. In an interview recently given to the American media CBS News, he said that if Beijing attacks, the United States will do everything to protect Taipei. Biden also said that the US military will intervene if necessary.

Analysts believe that the United States has practically departed from its long-standing policy on the Taiwan issue through such clear comments by Biden. Many fear that China will be angry because of direct US military intervention. However, Beijing has not commented on this yet.

Biden has made strong comments on the Taiwan issue before. In an interview in May this year, the US president said that if China attacks Taiwan, the US will take military action. However, according to a statement from the White House later, Biden did not want to refer to the US military operation against China in the interview.
