US President Joe Biden arrived in London to attend the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. He will pay his respects at the Queen's coffin on Sunday (September 18) and meet King Charles and several other world leaders at a state reception on the same day. Biden will attend the Queen's funeral at London's Westminster Abbey on Monday (September 19).
According to the media BBC, Biden is among about 500 heads of state and dignitaries who came to London to attend such a gathering of world leaders that has not been seen in decades.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Commonwealth leaders Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe are also expected to attend the event. India will be represented by the country's President Draupadi Murmu.
Other world leaders in attendance will include French President Emmanuel Macron, Irish President Taoiseach Michael Martin, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Italian President Sergio Mattarella. In addition, members of the royal family from across Europe will also be present.
The first state funeral in Britain since the death of Winston Churchill in 1965 will be attended by around 2,000 guests along with world leaders at Westminster Abbey in London on Monday (September 19) at 11 am local time.
US President Joe Biden first met Queen Elizabeth II 40 years ago. Mourning the Queen's death, he said Queen Elizabeth II was of 'incomparable dignity' and calm nature.
Last year, Biden said Queen Elizabeth II reminded him of his mother.
