The two planes collided over Boulder County, 30 miles north of Denver, early Saturday (September 17) local time. The local police reported this news quoting eyewitnesses.


According to the news, after the collision, the two planes crashed in two different places in an open field.


The Boulder County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that police received multiple calls from witnesses about the mid-air collision around 8:50 a.m. local time. The two aircraft that collided were Cessna 172 and Sonex Genos.

Sonex Zenos is an aluminum light aircraft that can be built at home, according to the company's website. The Cessna 172 Skyhawk is a small single-engine aircraft with only 4 seats.

According to the US National Transportation Safety Board, investigators are looking into what caused the collision.
