Is Putin fighting alone against the West?

Russian President Vladimir Putin is fighting alone against Western hegemony where the whole world is helpless. Analysts believe that the West is unilaterally helping Ukraine in the war, but its so-called benevolent countries are not helping Russia at all.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been criticizing the so-called ethics of the United States and the use of force in other countries for a long time. At the Munich Security Conference in 2007, for the first time, he raised the issue of bilateral behavior of the United States. However, Putin still considered the United States and Western countries as partners. With the passage of time it has now become an enemy state.

Putin has made it clear in his recent speech that Russia is leading the way to resist US hegemony. But what is the position of the rest of the world in this case? In particular, do Putin's alleged allies want to confront the United States at all?

Iran is busy negotiating

The US conflict with Iran is quite old. Iran is facing anti-government protests due to the death of a young woman named Mahsa Amini in police custody. The country's hardline government is currently busy negotiating with the West. The Rice and Biden administrations are continuing to negotiate to lift the sanctions unilaterally imposed by former US President Donald Trump on Iran.

China is falling

Russian President Vladimir Putin has sought help from China, one of the world's superpowers, to counter the United States. However, Beijing is gradually distancing itself from the support it had for Russia in the Ukraine war at the beginning.

China has no interest in joining Putin's efforts to end the hegemony of the US dollar and improve the global financial system. Despite being a staunch critic of the United States, current Chinese President Xi Jinping has been wary of war in Ukraine and has refused to support Putin's annexation of Ukrainian territory.

Erdogan has no response

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has personal problems with the West. Erdogan accused the West of being involved in the coup attempt in Turkey in 2016. He has always refused to impose Western sanctions on Russia. However, for its own interests, Turkey has supported Ukraine with advanced drones such as Bayraktar's TB Two.

Ankara has also begun to rethink the US sanctions imposed on Russia. Not only that, just a day before Putin's speech, Turkey's state-owned banks refused to use Russia's MIR payment system.

The West has cut off most of Russia's banks from the SWIFT payment network, an international organization that exchanges messages for financial transactions. Russia introduced the payment system MIR as an alternative to the Belgium-based SWIFT interbank messaging system. And Turkey removed themselves from that.

Erdogan's government has also objected to the annexation of Ukraine's territory to Russia. Instead, they mentioned it as a serious violation of international law.

Back India

After the war started, India wanted to increase its imports of oil and other commodities from Russia. However, with time, New Delhi is withdrawing from supporting Moscow's fight against the West.

Due to Western sanctions, Russia has given a condition to pay the price in rubles for the purchase of fuel oil, but recently the Indian government has said that they are unwilling to accept this condition of Russia. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also strongly criticized Russia's operation in Ukraine at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Uzbekistan on September 16.

Armenia is moving away

Putin also risks losing Armenia, Russia's closest security ally. Senior Armenian officials have hinted at leaving the alliance altogether after Yerevan refused to support the Russian-led Collective Security Treaty Organization (CTO) following the war with Azerbaijan.

Central Asian countries are not supported

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is also trying to distance himself from Putin. However, in January of this year, Russian forces helped the country's government to suppress mass protests by accusing it of coup attempt.

However, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan have warned their citizens to volunteer for the Ukraine war in the wake of Russia's call. Putin awarded the President of Tajikistan with the Order of Merit. That Tajikistan also did not agree to the Russian payment system at the risk of violating Western sanctions.

Africa-Middle East Critique

Qatar and Kuwait, two of the Middle East's biggest energy exporters, have also warned Russia about the Ukraine war. They condemned the use of force in Ukraine and called for respect for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Russia's aggression in Africa has also been criticized. In late September, Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo criticized Russia at the United Nations.

Putin is fighting alone

While so-called allies remain silent on the double-dealing of the West, Russian President Putin is fighting against them alone. Analysts believe this could make him more dangerous and aggressive. However, many believe that Putin may become more isolated from the world by fighting alone.
