Attack on the Capitol: Demand Trump be brought to justice
The Investigative Committee has voted in favor of issuing a subpoena against former US President Donald Trump in connection with the attack on the US Congress building or the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Thursday (October 13) was the committee's 10th hearing.
This information was reported by BBC news at around 3:30 pm local time on Thursday (October 13).
In the final hearing before the midterm elections, the committee said Trump was involved in overturning the results of the 2020 US presidential election and planned to announce his victory.
The committee was working to investigate how supporters of Donald Trump stormed the Congressional building on January 6, 2021, while Congress was in the process of ratifying President Joe Biden's victory.
Showing video footage, the panel said Congress leaders were not seen during the attack. And Trump played a passive role during the attack on the Capitol.
While the panel cannot bring legal charges against Trump, their case is open to the public through plenary hearings, the BBC reports.
Republican Benny Thompson, chairman of the committee, said the panel's decision to subpoena former President Donald Trump is important for the American people. He (Trump) must be brought to justice.
Earlier, it was stated in the hearing of the United States Congress that the supporters of Donald Trump threatened election officials and their family members because they did not agree to cancel the results of the 2020 election.
Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said they investigate every complaint they receive.
