The western world is raising the tone against Iran over the drone issue
The western world is gradually raising the tone against Iran over the issue of Ukraine. The United States and the European Union (EU) accuse Tehran of providing military equipment to Moscow in the war in Ukraine. Not only that, they are threatening to impose economic sanctions against Tehran on this pretext.
The Ukraine-Russia conflict started last February with the Russian military operation in Ukraine. Since then, the conflict has continued for about eight months.
Through this conflict, Russia has already occupied a large area of Ukraine. At the same time, the attack intensified. Along with missiles, advanced drones are being used in these attacks.
Despite Russia's warnings, the Western world has been providing military, financial and humanitarian support to Kiev since the beginning of the conflict. At the same time, it is trying to corner Russia in various ways. Along with Russia, Iran is the target of the West. Focusing on the Iran nuclear deal, the focus is now on Iranian drones.
According to Ukraine, the Russian forces have recently attacked the electricity infrastructure of different cities of the country using a type of drone called 'kamikaze'. And this drone is made by Iran. Ukraine also said its military had shot down at least 220 drones since last September.
Tehran has denied supplying Moscow with drones or helping to launch them. Russia has also rejected reports of an attack using Iranian weapons. The Kremlin says it has no information that Iranian drones are being used in Ukraine.
On Thursday (October 20), the White House said that Iran is directly supporting Russia in the drone attack in Ukraine. White House national security spokesman John Kirby said Iranian military personnel were assisting Russian forces from Crimea in operating the drones.
In the words of this White House official: 'We have observed that Iranian military personnel are in Russian-occupied Crimea and are assisting Russia in its military operations in Ukraine.'
The White House also warned Russia and Iran again of sanctions from the press conference. John Kirby said, 'We are going to enforce US sanctions more strongly on both Russia and Iran.'
The European Union has already announced new sanctions against Iran over the issue of Iranian drones in Ukraine. The current president of the EU Council, the Czech Republic, said in a statement on Thursday (October 20) that the EU has agreed to impose sanctions on three Iranian officials and an organization for supplying drones to Russia and using them in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, in harmony with the Western world, Israel has also expressed concern about Iranian drones. Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid spoke on the phone with Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on Thursday (October 20).
A statement from Lapid's office said that during the phone conversation between Lapid and Dmytro Kulebar, the Israeli prime minister was aware of the latest situation in the war in Ukraine and stressed that Israel would stand by the people of Ukraine.
The statement also said that in their phone conversation, the prime minister expressed his deep concern about military relations between Iran and Russia. An unnamed senior official told the media that Iran's drones have been supplied to Russia.
