Rishi Sunak is further ahead in the Prime Ministerial race

Indian-origin Rishi Sunak went further in the race to become Britain's next Prime Minister. The country's former finance minister has so far received the support of 128 Tory MPs to become the leader of the Conservative Party. On the other hand, 53 people are in favor of former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is in the second position. If all MPs back one by Monday (October 24), the new prime minister could be named on the same day.

According to the media BBC, Boris recently held a secret meeting with Rishi Sunak, who is fighting to become the former finance minister and party leader. However, it is not known what was discussed between them.

Indian-origin Rishi Sunak is leading the race to become the leader of the Conservative Party. Out of 357 Tory MPs, 128 voted for him. On the other hand, Boris' supporters claim that Johnson has received the minimum support needed to remain in the race for party leadership. However, Rishi Sunak's supporters have expressed doubts about such a claim.

23 MPs have backed Penny Mordant, another candidate in the party leadership race. The BBC also reported that 204 MPs have so far expressed their opinion out of 357. However, if all the support goes in favor of one person by Monday, the name of the new party chief will be announced that day. If not, the results may be announced after online voting next Friday (October 28).

British Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation last week after failing to deliver on her promises. After that, unrest began in British politics. The opposition Labor Party demanded a parliamentary election without electing a new leader.
