US-Canada joint patrol in Taiwan

Meanwhile, China has strongly condemned the US and Canadian warships patrolling the Taiwan Strait. Beijing has also accused Washington of destabilizing the Taiwan Strait.
China's Defense Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday that the two vessels were closely monitored by the Chinese Navy and Air Force throughout their passage through the Taiwan Strait. The country's defense department also said that its army, navy and air force have been ordered to be on high alert. It has also been asked to be ready to respond to any provocative activities.
China has been claiming sole ownership of Taiwan and its surrounding areas. In recent years, ships from the US, Britain and their allies have regularly passed through the Taiwan Strait, angering Beijing.
