In a report published on Tuesday (September 19), Reuters reported that the Taitung County in southeastern Taiwan was the source of these earthquakes. That is where the damage is greatest. The country's fire service has so far confirmed 146 injuries and one death in the earthquake.
The Meteorological Department also said that the earthquake was felt for the first time on Saturday (September 17) night, when the magnitude of the tremor was 6.4. Then on Sunday (September 18) morning, Taiwan shook again, with a magnitude of 6.8. Then on the same day at noon, another earthquake of 7.2 magnitude was felt in the country.
Taiwan's railway administration said about 7,000 homes were damaged in Yuli. Rescue work is going on.
It is reported that the landslide has completely blocked the roads in Chike and Liushishi areas. As a result, at least 600 people are trapped in those areas even though they are physically unharmed. Rescue teams are said to be clearing roads and trying to reach them.
Incidentally, Japan issued a tsunami warning after the earthquake in Taiwan. For this, preparations have been made in the coastal areas.
It should be noted that earlier in 2016, more than a hundred people died in the earthquake that occurred in South Taiwan. In 1999, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake killed more than 2,000 Taiwanese.
