Twin blasts kill 100 in Somalia
At least 100 people were killed when two car bombs exploded outside the Ministry of Education in Somalia's capital, Mogadishu. Another 300 people were injured in this incident. On Sunday( October 30), the President of the country, Hassan Sheikh Mohammed, gave this information in a statement.
According to news agency Reuters, Somalia's President Sheikh Mohammed criticized the terrorist association" Al- Shabaab" for the incident. However, no one right now claimed responsibility for the attack.
Sheikh Mohammad immediately visited the scene and said that among those who were killed, there were parents and children. Indeed students and businessmen have been killed. The death risk may rise.
The first explosion happed at a busy intersection near the Ministry of Education in Mogadishu, according to reports. The second explosion happened when people gathered to help the victims with an ambulance.
Local police Sadiq said two explosions targeted civilians including children, women and the senior.
The blast happed as the president, prime minister and other senior officers met in the capital to discuss countering violent extremism, particularly the al- Shabaab group.
Al Shabaab is an al Qaeda- linked terrorist group. They regularly attack the capital of Somalia and other areas of the country. The group has been waging an insurgency against the Somali government for further than a decade.
Note that in 2017, further than 500 people were killed in the biggest bomb attack in the history of Somalia at the same place. At that time a truck bomb exploded.
