The European Union is on the way to tougher measures to curb air pollution
The European Union is going to take strong measures to prevent air pollution to prevent climate change. The alliance has proposed a new law with hefty fines as well as legal action against industrial plants for air pollution. Not only air pollution, but also various measures are being taken to prevent water pollution from industrial toxic waste. In the meantime, a related law has been proposed by the EU, according to the alliance. Reuters news.
Despite years of promises by world leaders to combat the effects of climate change, there has been no effective action. The implementation of the climate agreement is far away, on the contrary, the world leaders are constantly moving away from the various promises and commitments given by the world leaders. The world is constantly threatened by this, the danger of climate disaster is increasing.
Under the new measure, factories are set to cap air pollution levels and fine pharmaceutical and cosmetics factories heavily for water pollution.
Not only that, the new law also proposes to impose obligations on EU countries to bring the level of air pollution to a tolerable level by 2030 and bring it down to zero by 2050. Virginijas Cinquevicius, head of climate affairs of the alliance, said this at a press conference in Brussels recently.
"Air pollution is the biggest threat to the environment and our health," Virginijas said. It is only adversely affecting our economy. The elderly and children are most at risk. And so we have to be more diligent to prevent air pollution, we have to take effective steps according to the plan.'
According to UN data, more than 3 lakh people die every year due to air pollution. Although Europe's air quality has improved somewhat over the past decade, pollution levels in some countries are still well above the alliance's target levels.
Experts say the world is still a long way from meeting the pledge made by world leaders to limit the rate of increase in atmospheric temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius. They also warned that if it continues like this, it will reach 3.2 degrees Celsius by the end of this century.
