Germany-Spain wants pipeline to solve power crisis, France blocks

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is now in Spain. He spoke with the Prime Minister of Spain about the pipeline project to solve the power crisis. But the main obstacle in the way of this project is France. News from Deutsche Welle.
German Chancellor Scholz and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez agreed on the pipeline, but France still refused to install the pipeline. The top leaders of Germany and Spain believe that this pipeline is very important to solve Europe's electricity crisis.

It is known that the proposed pipeline will pass through the Piranes mountains. It will come to Germany from Spain via France. The pipeline project took center stage in the discussions between Shalz and Sanchez. Both the leaders have given their opinion in favor of the construction of this pipeline.

According to the Joint Action Plan, the construction of hydro-carbon ready gas pipelines is very important. This pipeline is needed to create an energy market within the EU. The pipeline passing through the Piranis will be completed by 2025. This will preserve the EU's strategic sovereignty and provide green energy.

Germany is very interested in building this pipeline. They used to get most of their gas from Russia. But the situation changed after the Russia-Ukraine war. Germany can no longer rely on Russian gas. In this situation, Madrid and Berlin want this pipeline to be built. But this pipeline is supposed to go through France.

Sanchez said, due to the lack of pipelines, Spain is not able to fully use natural gas. It is not able to provide electricity to the rest of Europe.
France is not very interested in this pipeline. This project started in 2013. But it was canceled in 2019. There were two reasons for the cancellation. Environmentalists fear and are not financially viable.

Last month, French President Emmanuel Macron voiced his opposition to the pipeline project. He said, two pipelines passed through Piranese. They are not fully utilized. A third pipeline is not required in this situation.

But after a meeting with the Spanish Prime Minister, German Chancellor Scholz said he thinks France has not canceled the pipeline project. Some projects may not seem profitable today, but they may be profitable tomorrow, he opined.

Germany and Spain want to expand this pipeline further. Many European countries can benefit from this. Scholz said that Germany is building its own LNG terminal. This infrastructure can later be used for hydrogen as well.
