Four civilians killed in Rakhine artillery attack

Three people, including a teacher, were killed in an artillery attack by the junta forces in Myanmar's Rakhine state on Monday (October 17). At least 13 others were injured. News from Irrawaddy.

Locals said soldiers of the Light Infantry Battalion, based in Minbia town in Rakhine state, opened fire on local villages after being hit by a land mine attack. It caused casualties in the villages.


It is known that a 50-year-old female school teacher was killed on the spot when the junta forces attacked Palaung Pine village. Meanwhile, two sisters of the same village were attacked and died on the way to the hospital.


On Monday (October 17), a local told the media that at least 13 people were injured. The number is likely to increase as the junta forces continue to attack.


Junta forces have reportedly blocked the city's roads. Because of this, it was not possible to take the dead body of the school teacher to her home.

Locals said schools and shops in the city were also closed as the junta forces continued to attack. A resident said people are staying indoors and no one dares to go out on the streets.

Irrawaddy media reported that they could not independently verify the report because the villagers had fled due to fear.

On the same day, a 30-year-old Muslim woman from Kyuktao, Rakhine was also killed when the Junta forces stationed at Kispandi Bridge fired mortar shells at 8:00 p.m.

An elder in Kyuktao town said the soldiers were firing at houses on either side of the bridge. We ran away in fear. A local resident said that the woman was taken to the hospital after being attacked. He died there.


Earlier last August, at least 5 people were killed and more than 20 injured in junta artillery attacks in Kyuktao, Mrauk-U and Buthidang in clashes between junta forces and the Arakan Army.
