Contempt case against Imran Khan dismissed

The High Court of Islamabad dismissed the contempt of court case against former Prime Minister of Pakistan and Chairman of Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan. A five-member bench of the court gave the verdict on Monday (October 3).

It is reported that the case was dismissed after Imran Khan apologized for his statement. Being released from the case, there is no obstacle for Imran to contest the next election.

On August 20, former Prime Minister Imran Khan was accused of threatening a woman judge and police chief in a rally in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. After the investigation of the incident, a case was filed against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The court issued an arrest warrant against Imran Khan last Friday as he did not appear in the hearing of the case.

In this situation, the court granted the application for anticipatory bail in this case on Sunday. Imran Khan also submitted an affidavit to avoid the case.

Finally, the court of the country has withdrawn the case against Imran Khan. A five-member bench gave the verdict, reported Pakistan-based media Dawn. Imran Khan's lawyer said that the case has been withdrawn due to his desire to apologize to the court and express his sorrow to the woman judge Zeba Chowdhury.

According to Pakistani law, if a politician is convicted for contempt of court, he cannot participate in elections for the next five years. Now that Imran Khan has been freed from the case, there is no obstacle to electing.
