Druzhba pipeline management authority PERN discovered the leak in the main oil supply line to Germany on Tuesday (October 11) evening. Oil supplies in Germany continue to taper, PERN said.
"We are talking about an accidental damage," said Mateusz Barza, Poland's top official in charge of energy installations, on the possibility of sabotage in the case of the Druzhba pipeline leak. Barza said part of the oil supply to Germany could not be sent due to the leak. However, he also assured that it will not take much time to repair this hole.
The operator of the Russian section of the pipeline said it was continuing to supply oil as per the contract.
The Russian name for the Druzhba pipeline is 'Friendship'. It is one of the largest oil pipelines in the world. It supplies Russian oil to Germany, Poland, Belarus, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Austria.
