North Korea fired a missile over Japan

North Korea has fired a ballistic missile over northern Japan. This missile was fired over the country for the first time since 2017 on Tuesday (October 4). Meanwhile, Japan has issued a warning for its citizens in this incident.

The country has told its citizens to evacuate to safe havens and has temporarily suspended train services in northern Japan, the BBC reported.

According to the report, the missile launched by North Korea fell into the Pacific Ocean over the territory of Japan.

The country said it was the first time since 2017 that Japan did not use any defenses to destroy a North Korean ballistic missile that flew over Japan or crossed its territory.

Japan's chief government spokesman Hirokazu Matsuno said at a press conference, "North Korea's series of actions, including repeated ballistic missile launches, pose a threat to the peace and security of Japan, the region and the international community." At the same time, North Korea's actions have created a serious challenge for the entire international community, including Japan.

He said the missile flew 4,600 kilometers (2,850 miles) at a maximum altitude of 1,000 kilometers.

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), meanwhile, said it appeared to be an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) and was launched from North Korea's Jagang province.
