Israel must destroy its nuclear weapons. Also, their nuclear facilities should be handed over to the International Atomic Energy Agency. The majority of the UN countries have said this decision.
This week a related proposal was made in the United Nations General Assembly. After voting, this decision was announced. 152 countries voted in favor of the proposal.
The United States, Canada, Israel, Micronesia and Palau voted against the resolution. Besides, 24 countries abstained from voting. These countries include United Kingdom, Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Hungary and India.
This proposal was raised by Egypt at the United Nations. 19 countries, in addition to the Palestinian Authority, supported the resolution when it was introduced. Bangladesh was among the 152 countries that voted against Israel.
According to various sources, Israel has 80 to 400 nuclear warheads. However, Tel Aviv has never denied or admitted to having nuclear weapons. They have not signed Nuclear Disarmament Treaty or NPT either.
Israel developed its first nuclear weapon in late 1966 or early 1967. But Israel has deliberately maintained a policy of ambiguity.
