Crucial fiber optic cables for long-distance rail communications in northern Germany have been set ablaze by miscreants. The police are investigating who is involved in this destructive activity.

Local time on Saturday (October 8) in the afternoon, the rail connection between the northern town and the capital Berlin was suddenly cut off. Communication with different regions also caused major disruptions.

An investigation into the cause of the incident revealed that miscreants had set fire to a vital fiber optic cable for long-distance rail traffic in northern Germany. In this, the passengers were in trouble as communication with Berlin was stopped. Hundreds of thousands of passengers were stranded at railway stations.

Referring to this incident as a conspiracy and sabotage, the railway authorities said that the train movement was stopped due to the burning of the network cable. Security forces are continuing to search for those involved in the incident.

Those traveling to Hamburg, Selschwig Holstein and Lower Saxony, Castle-Wilhelmshoehe, the capital Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia suffered the most on the day. Passengers were later refunded the ticket price.

Earlier, NATO and the European Union warned against acts of sabotage as well as heightened security of Europe's critical infrastructure due to the Russia-Ukraine war.
