According to media reports, Shizuoka, a city southwest of the capital Tokyo, suffered the most damage from the storm. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said on Thursday (September 22) that a record 417 millimeters of rain had fallen since the start of the rains until the morning of Saturday (September 24).


The JMA also reported that the typhoon had wind speeds of 65 kilometers per hour to a maximum of 90 kilometers per hour.


The country's local media confirmed that a man in his 40s had died in the landslide and the body of a 29-year-old man had been recovered from a car that plunged into the water.

About 150,000 families have been cut off, said the concerned. They also said to repair the severed lines quickly. Train services were suspended since last Friday due to heavy rain.

The JMA predicted more heavy rain in Shizuoka on Saturday morning and decided to issue a landslide and flood warning. Authorities said 3,000 residents were evacuated from the city of Yokohama, about 30 kilometers south of Tokyo.
