Former justice minister sentenced to death for bribery
A Chinese court has sentenced a former Chinese justice minister to death for corruption. He has gained fame by leading several anti-corruption campaigns. RT reported this information in a report on Thursday (September 22).
According to media reports, the name of the former Chinese minister sentenced to death is Fu Zhengzhu. He became China's Minister of Justice in 2018. He took bribes of 11.7 million yuan (Chinese currency) as gifts and in exchange for personal gain. He was found guilty of these charges last July. A court in Changchun, the capital of Jilin province, sentenced him to death on Thursday.
Fu Zhengzhou, China's former justice minister, led several high-profile investigations into corruption in the country. But he himself is now convicted for corruption. However, the purge among officials in the country has intensified recently around the upcoming congress of China's ruling Communist Party.
It is known that the 67-year-old Fu has been given a suspended death sentence for corruption. The sentence will be commuted to life imprisonment with no possibility of parole after two years, according to Chinese state media.
Three former police chiefs in three Chinese provinces were sentenced to prison this week ahead of Fu's death sentence.
