9 killed in Guatemala concert stampede
At least 9 people died in a stampede at a concert in the Central American country of Guatemala. Another 20 people were seriously injured in the accident on Thursday (September 15). Al Jazeera news.
According to information from the country's Ministry of Interior, the concert was held in an open field in the city of Kuwait-Zal-Tenango. After the ceremony was over, the audience started cheering. Many people were trampled by that. 9 people died on the spot. The rest were rescued by the fire brigade, Red Cross and other voluntary organizations.
The Ministry of Home Affairs also said that some people have been hospitalized due to broken bones. The rest were sent back home. In the meantime, the president of the country has ordered to investigate the root cause of the accident. This concert was on the occasion of the country's Independence Day.
