10 people imprisoned in Russia have been released. They were released as part of a prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia.
According to the news of the American media New York Times, the officials of Saudi Arabia confirmed this information on Wednesday (September 21).
In a tweet from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, it has been mentioned that the country's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman worked as an intermediary for the release of the prisoners.
British and American citizens are among the detainees. They have been taken to Saudi Arabia.
According to news agency Reuters, the 10 people released include two from the United States, five from the United Kingdom and one each from Croatia, Morocco and Sweden.
According to Saudi Arabia's statement, after bringing them from Russia to Saudi Arabia, arrangements are being made to send them to their respective countries. However, the relevant authorities of Saudi Arabia did not disclose their identity.
However, according to the New York Times, five British and two American citizens went there to participate in the war in Ukraine. Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Liz Truss expressed relief after the release of the prisoners.
These prisoners were released at a time when Russian President Vladimir Putin announced an increase in military personnel to protect the motherland from the West. He announced this in a televised address to the nation on Wednesday after signing a decree. This is the first time since World War II that Russia is going to increase such an army. Putin made a sudden decision to organize a referendum to join several regions of Ukraine with Russia. He also warned those who are plotting the destruction of Russia to give a toothless reply.
