The death toll in the ongoing movement in Iran has risen to 31

Iran is still reeling from protests over the death of a woman in police custody who was arrested for not wearing hijab 'properly'. The security forces there are also playing a critical role. According to AFP, the death toll in the violence has risen to 31.

Mahmoud Amiri Moghaddam, director of the Iranian Human Rights Commission, revealed the death toll and said that people took to the streets to demand their basic rights and self-respect. But the government is responding with bullets.

Mahmud Amiri also said that the condemnation and concern of the international community is not enough anymore. The movement has spread to more than 30 cities and the government continues to arrest civil society citizens, including human rights activists.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Kurdish rights group Hengao reported that a total of 15 protesters from northern Iran, including 8 from Kurdistan, were killed.
