French President Emmanuel Macron has commented that imperialism has returned through Russia's military operations in Ukraine. He also alleged that the Ukraine war is creating division in the world. On the other hand, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called for a peaceful solution to the crisis through negotiations, stating that Moscow will not win the ongoing war. They said this in the opening debate of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday (September 20).
Most countries of the world, including Europe, are facing a global recession and severe energy crisis due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Naturally, the issue of Russia's military operation in Ukraine dominates the discussion on the first day of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The impact of the Russia-Ukraine war and tackling the energy crisis were also on the agenda for the first day's high-level debate.
At the beginning of his speech, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz strongly criticized Russia's imperialist ambitions and condemned the military operation in Ukraine. He said Putin must admit that he will not win this war.
Shalz said, 'We all want this war to end. We also know how it will end. Until Putin abandons his imperial ambitions, no one can stop this war. It will be possible only when he realizes that he will not win this war.
French President Emmanuel Macron commented that the Ukraine war has brought back imperialism. In his speech before the world leaders at the General Assembly, he said that Russia's military operation in Ukraine is creating division in the world. He also urged the world community to unite against Russia instead of playing a neutral role.
Macron said that only a negotiated agreement by both sides in accordance with international law could lead to a peaceful solution to the crisis. No compromise is possible without mutual trust and confidence.
Apart from this, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro strongly criticized Russia's military operation in Ukraine and called for an immediate ceasefire. The head of state of some other countries including Italy has called for a peaceful solution to the crisis through negotiations.
